Courses

All IUTC partner universities provide the following courses:

    • Academic writing
      The courses describe the build-up of a good paper and concentrate on improving the participants’ use of academic English by focusing on academic writing conventions, typical pitfalls and the use of academic vocabulary and structures. Participants receive individual feedback on their writing assignments. Consequently, the courses not only provide a useful framework of reference for future use, they also focus on participants’ individual experiences and problems.
      Prerequisites for all courses:

      • participants must be at the writing stage of their dissertation /research project
      • participants are expected to be advanced users of English
    • Presentation and seminar skills
      The courses improve the effectiveness and clarity of the participants’ presentations in English by practising the use of vocabulary, structures and specific phrases related to public speaking. Besides doing exercises, participants learn by means of simulations and short oral presentations. Individual feedback and error analysis allow participants to focus on their individual experiences and problems. At the end of the courses, the participants will feel more confident when giving a presentation in English.
      Prerequisites for all courses:

      • participants must be at the stage where they start presenting their work at conferences
      • participants are expected to be advanced users of English
